Embracing a new chapter, despite the uncertainties I felt, opened new doors to more opportunities than I ever could have imagined. Through my new passion, I kept my love for music alive in unexpected ways while finding new avenues to give back to the communities and spaces I cherish.
In 2017, I found myself standing at a crossroads. I still loved music—it had been my lifeblood for over a decade. But creating, performing, and producing as a profession was no longer sparking the same joy and fulfillment it once did. Despite the success I had found, I was ready for something different. It was time to transition, to find a new path.
My journey in music began in my childhood, but blossomed in high school and during my time at Old Dominion University. I studied English while nurturing a burgeoning passion for music. I wasn't confident enough to pursue a formal music degree, but I knew I wanted music to be a significant part of my life. This led to an internship in music production, and eventually, I found myself owning two studios, producing tracks for other musicians, composing and producing for Virginia Stage Company and PBS, and performing and touring the US with various bands. A song I worked on was featured on the TV show "Shameless," and two projects I was a part of received Emmys.
But the music industry, especially outside of major hubs like LA and New York, has its limitations. Despite the success, the reality of sustaining a stable income was tough. The local scene couldn't offer the same financial security, and after owning and operating studios for many years, I was left feeling burnt out. The final straw came when my partnership forming a new studio fell apart after six months of pouring my heart and resources into it. I was left emotionally and financially drained.
That's when real estate started to seem like the best next step for me. Initially, I balanced it part-time with my music career. The first two years were a roller coaster—periods of great success followed by stretches of uncertainty. It took time to adjust to the business side of being a real estate agent, but eventually, I found my rhythm. I realized I wasn't just an agent; I was running a business, and this shift in mindset was crucial.
What kept me grounded during this transition were the connections I made with my clients. Each new relationship was an opportunity to learn their stories, share their dreams, and sometimes even become friends. I enjoyed guiding them through one of the most significant purchases of their lives, often playing multiple roles—therapist, advisor, cheerleader, and beyond. My clients and the connections I formed with them, along with the impact I had on their lives through real estate, sparked a calling for me.
One of the most important things to me was to build my business while maintaining my authenticity. I love what I do and approach clients with warmth, positivity, and the professionalism needed to bring successful outcomes. I also started giving back to the community that shaped me. I got involved with Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads and the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance. I have used real estate as a means to support the music community too, hosting an LGBTQ-friendly open mic night and sponsoring LAVA Music Fest, helping create and maintain spaces for others to share their talents. Now, I feel like I can achieve my business goals and use that success to support the things that are important to me.
My family, my friends, and my partner, Rachel, have been my ultimate supporters and encouragers on this journey. I aim to continue building a sustainable business that grows and supports my community. Most importantly, I want to remain true to myself, advocating for the LGBTQ+ community, and making a positive impact in the real estate world.
In our free time, Rachel and I love skiing, kayaking, road biking, hosting dinners, and spending quality time with friends and family. We are also obsessed with our Corgi, Cash, and our two cats, Walter and Artemis.
My background in music taught me the importance of creative problem-solving, attention to detail, and perseverance—qualities that have seamlessly transferred to my real estate career. Both fields require an understanding of people’s needs and delivering something exceptional. Real estate, however, has emerged as my true calling. The satisfaction of helping someone find their dream home or sell a cherished property is unparalleled. This career allows me to blend my passion for service with my strategic mindset, making every day rewarding and meaningful.
In real estate, I pride myself on being patient and an excellent listener, truly understanding my clients' needs and translating them into successful outcomes. I specialize in serving LGBTQ+ clients, military buyers using VA loans, and those looking for waterfront properties. Working with first-time homebuyers is particularly rewarding—nothing compares to helping someone get into their first home. I also handle multifamily properties, historic homes, and relocations, providing seamless transitions even in complex situations. My commitment to personal and professional growth ensures that I stay at the forefront of the industry, always ready to offer the best possible service to my clients!
